The restoration begins with the vanagon on the flatbed way off in the distance :) 

Engine. 

Left side of engine bay. 

Right side of engine bay. 

The alternator inline connection. There's also a plug in the front-side of the alternator that needs to come out (front being towards the front of the vehicle). 

A rather fuzzy picture of the front end of the throttle return spring. 

The back of the throttle return spring hooks through a small hole in the manifold. 

Accelerator cable. 

Rubber heater bellows. This is the back right of the engine compartment - lean over and look under the back rim to find this. 

Coil wires. 

Oil pressure sensor inline connection. This wire dives down below the tin - use the distributor for reference. This photo is taken from the back facing the front of the van.

I pulled all of the hoses out of the air valve. These two aren't really necessary, as long as you remove the plastic T piece on the other end, as described in the next step. 

Brake vaccuum servo hose. Pull the whole plastic T off, instead of the hose out of the T as is being shown.
